Unni Mukundan’s social media page has been flooded with messages since the makers of Mamangam unveiled the first look poster of the movie. The actor plays the warrior Chandroth Panicker in the film, which has Mammootty in the lead.

Unni’s shredded look in the film is a result of eight months of intense physical training, soon after he finished work in Mikhael, for which he bulked up to play Marco Jr. “Weight wise, I just dropped 2kg. I was 78kg while shooting for Mamangam. I cut down the fat percentage and packed on a lot of muscles. I also changed my diet thrice over eight months,” he says.

On his workout and diet regime during the shoot schedule, the actor says, “I would get up at 5am, have some oats or apples and then workout. I would then go to the sets. I would have five meals on the location – this includes a peanut butter sandwich with wheat bread, grilled chicken and four rotis, protein intake, oats and sweet potatoes for carbs to keep to energy going. I also had fruits occasionally in between the snacks. By 7:30pm, I have my dinner and it would burn like hell. Dinner would include Al Faham chicken, oats with honey and a full glass of water. By 9pm, after the shoot gets over, I try to go the gym for a rigorous 90-minute workout.”

Apart from hitting the gym, the actor also trained in kalarippayattu once in four days during the shoot to play the chaaver warrior in the period film, directed by MA Padmakumar.


Unni Mukundan reveals his workout regime for Mamangam



Unni Mukundan had trained for eight months to play the character of warrior Chandroth Panicker in his upcoming release Mamangam. His workout regime included hitting the gym daily for at least three hours along with a strict diet, and also training in kalaripayattu once in four days during the film's schedule. The talented actor reveals what his diet and rigorous workout entailed to get in shape to play the character in the epic period film, which has Mammootty in the lead
